Getting Laclede County Court Records
Start online. Missouri Case.net lets anyone run a docket search. Search by case number, party name, filing date, scheduled hearing, or the judgment index. Pick Laclede County - 26th Judicial Circuit first. The public docket view can reveal the case. It also shows the title or date of a filed document. A linked document may open for reference. Just remember that a Case.net printout is not a certified court record.
Anything Case.net cannot reach goes through the Laclede County Circuit Clerk. Visit the public counter at the courthouse or ask about the public-access terminal there. The office also takes requests in person and by phone. For mail, fax, or email, the county publishes the Circuit Clerk fax along with Heather Officer's courts.mo.gov email, but confirm that method, payment instructions, required identification, and delivery options before sending anything. One caution: the County Clerk's administrative contact form is no substitute for a court-copy request to the Circuit Clerk.
- Locate the Laclede County case number and write down the document name, document date, and docket-entry date if known.
- Use Case.net to confirm the court, parties, case type, and public docket entry.
- Ask the Circuit Clerk for the exact item: a plain docket sheet, judgment, order, pleading, or certified copy.
- Before submitting a request, confirm the current fee, payment method, identification rule, delivery method, and turnaround estimate.
Laclede County Circuit Clerk Desk
The Circuit Clerk, not the separate County Clerk, keeps the Laclede County court docket and court file. The clerk directory routes felony, misdemeanor, circuit civil, associate civil, small claims, traffic, family and protection matters, probate, estates, guardianships, judgments, restitution, and court-cost questions to that office. This division of duties is important because the County Clerk handles county commission, election, budget, and other administrative records.

The Laclede County Clerk's official home page identifies the county's public offices.
County administration and the Laclede County Circuit Clerk are separate offices. Court-file requests belong with the Circuit Clerk every time.
Unsure what kind of record you need? The Circuit Clerk directory sorts that out too. It covers criminal felony and beginning criminal matters, circuit and associate civil cases, small claims, Highway Patrol traffic, family and protection matters, probate and decedent estates, guardianships and conservatorships, transcript judgments, restitution, and court-cost questions. Give the office the category along with the case number, and the Laclede County request lands in the right hands.
Court Record Types
A Laclede County court record can mean three different things. The docket is the register of events: settings, filings, and outcomes in order. A filed document is the paper itself. It may be a petition, complaint, motion, order, judgment, return, or exhibit in the case file. A certified copy is different again. The clerk certifies it as authentic. That proof serves a receiving court, agency, or formal process.
| Record type | What it is | Usual Laclede County route |
|---|---|---|
| Docket / docket sheet | Chronological case register and case-identifying information. | Case.net for public information; Circuit Clerk for an official copy. |
| Filed document | The filing, order, judgment, or other item behind a docket entry. | Case.net when public and accessible, otherwise public terminal or Circuit Clerk request. |
| Certified copy | Clerk-certified reproduction with certification or seal. | Request from the Circuit Clerk and confirm current requirements. |
| Transcript | Record of a proceeding made by a court reporter. | Contact the court reporter or court administrative office, not just the clerk file. |
A judgment is not a docket sheet. The docket may list the entry of a judgment, but the judgment itself is the separate court document that spells out the ruling.
Laclede County File Viewer Access
Case.net File Viewer opens through a hyperlinked docket entry. The link appears whenever the document is available to that user. A blue bar at the top identifies the case number and style. The Categories and Documents area groups the attached files. The All view can display every available attachment. From there you can preview a document name. You can open a full browser view, print, or select multiple documents for download within the stated size limit.
One dead end deserves a warning. The county administrative contact page shows an online contact form. It offers no dedicated Circuit Clerk certified-copy option, no payment field, no record-type selector, and no turnaround promise.
That distinction keeps requests from going astray. Treat the form as a channel for county administrative business only, and go straight to the Circuit Clerk for any court record.
Inside a Laclede County Court Record
A Laclede County Case Header can display the case number, filing date, court or division, judge, case type, style, parties, and status. Docket Entries trace the dated sequence of notices, hearings, filings, orders, pleas, judgments, and disposition events. The case file itself can hold the actual pleadings, motions, returns, exhibits, and orders tied to those entries.
| Case number | The court-issued identifier used to request and track the correct Laclede County record. |
|---|---|
| Style / parties | The caption and party roles, such as plaintiff and defendant or petitioner and respondent. |
| Case type | Record category such as criminal, civil, traffic, probate, family, juvenile, or municipal. |
| Docket entry | A dated event that may link to a document if access permits. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome, such as dismissal, judgment, default, or another closing event. |
Whether you call or come in, give the case number, document title, and date. That small step cuts the risk of getting the wrong item. For older material, ask whether the file is paper, scanned, microfilm, archived, or limited to an in-person request.
Laclede County Court Record Custody
The Laclede County elected-officials page names Heather Officer as Circuit Clerk and lists the county's other officials.
The public office listing backs up the local custody rule. A prosecutor may prosecute a criminal case. The Recorder may hold land or marriage records. Yet neither stands in for the Circuit Clerk as keeper of the Laclede County court file.
For court-file questions, call the Circuit Clerk's number. The County Clerk's office serves administrative county records. Missouri's Sunshine Law governs that public body and its own files. It is not a route around a court-file restriction.
Fees and Certified Copies
Laclede County publishes no fee sheet for court copies. Rather than guess, the Circuit Clerk's office sets the actual charges. So call before you mail any request. Ask what a plain copy costs, and what a certified copy, an exemplification, a search, or a transcript will run. Get the accepted payment methods too.
| Item | Amount or status | Handling note |
|---|---|---|
| Online public docket | No charge stated in official Case.net material reviewed | Document images can still have separate security or access limits. |
| Plain copy | Fee not located in official Laclede sources | Confirm with the Circuit Clerk. |
| Certified docket, judgment, or document | Fee not located in official Laclede sources | Ask about certification, payment, and delivery. |
| Exemplified copy or search | Fee not located in official Laclede sources | Do not assume a local rate. |
| Payment-plan administration | Up to $25 if assessed under Court Operating Rule 21.13 | This is not a document-copy price. |
One number that gets confused with a copy fee is the payment-plan figure in Missouri Court Operating Rule 21. That amount is not a copying charge at all.
Laclede County Court Copy Fee Gap
Know what you need before you call the clerk. A plain docket sheet, a certified judgment, an order, a pleading, an exemplified copy, or a transcript-related record all carry different charges. Give the Laclede County case number and the document date. Then ask about the cost. Ask about any ID requirement, how to pay, how the copy will be delivered, and how long it takes.
Mail, fax, and email sometimes work for a request. The clerk's answer controls the next step, though. No general court-copy form is published, and not every request can be finished remotely. Older files in particular may need an in-person search of the court records.
Note: Missouri court-cost rules do not fix every local copying price. Current Laclede County copy charges come from the Circuit Clerk.
Laclede County Court Reporter Requests
A transcript and a court-file copy are not the same thing. The Circuit Clerk holds the docket and the documents in the case file. Testimony and other recorded proceedings are different. The court reporter or the court administrative office handles those instead. Laclede County names no reporter and posts no transcript rate. Confirm those terms directly.
Federal cases run through a separate channel entirely. The Western District of Missouri copy-request information shows that process.
Laclede County state-court records stay with the local Circuit Clerk. Federal case files, along with their copy procedures, belong to the federal court system.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Many court records start out public, but access has limits. Missouri Court Operating Rule 4 identifies the statewide court record system. It also covers the public-access equipment. Court Operating Rule 2 governs public access while recognizing confidential and courthouse-only categories. The Laclede County Circuit Clerk applies those rules to the local record.
Missouri Revised Statutes section 610.023 governs public-record requests to public governmental bodies, with a three-business-day action requirement. Court case files are also subject to judiciary access rules.
Section 211.321 generally makes juvenile proceedings and social records confidential, subject to limited statutory exceptions.
Section 610.141 governs expungement and restricted case records. A sealed or expunged docket sheet may not appear as an ordinary public result.
Not everything in a case file is open. Mental-health records, sealed or expunged records, confidential attachments, and protected family material can stay restricted even when the rest of the docket is public. Ask about authorized access; a public search or administrative request cannot override a restriction.
